| Shen Congwen is not only a famous modern writer and artist, but also a well-known ideologist in modern history. The literature world has been emphasizing his academic study of literature and art, resulting in the ignorance of his ideology. This paper attempts to study Shen Congwen's ideology from the perspective of Enlightenment.The first chapter explores cognitive relationship between the ideology of May 4th Enlightenment and Shen Congwen as an intellectual. The spirit of May 4th Enlightenment became a precious legacy inherited by Shen Congwen after its fall. Compared with subject of May 4th Enlightenment, Shen Congwen's identity is defined as an "interpreter" (of May 4th Movement). This position as an "interpreter" not only accord with the attitude of country people, but also, to some extent, overcome the defects of May 4th Enlightenment.Chapter two discusses three enlightenment attitude of Shen Congwen-toward the periphery, countryside-returning to, silent retreat. Interpretation of May 4th Enlightenment constitutes the basis for Shen Congwen's enlightenment attitude, and his affirmation of Miao Minority is his cultural root. His affirmation of Miao is an ideology of "the Chinese Nation" against Western culture during the phase of concession. Although his identity changed, he possessed the disposition of country man which is determined by his attitude to countryside-returning. Both the concept of group and individual was reflected through Shen Congwen. After liberation, the new social discourse deprived group concept of Shen Congwen, resulting in his retreat from the group (groups of country man and writers, professors, and other groups representing social identity) to the individual becoming the object of Enlightenment. Shen Congwen gradually accepted the new society through the confrontation of enlightenment and self-enlightenment. Despite the ambiguous and confusing attitude from the perspective of heritage research, but his silent retreat always shows his persistence enlightenment.Chapter three addresses the background of the Enlightenment attitude of Shen Congwen. His Enlightenment attitude stemmed from his own resources of enlightenment theory—empirical sense. His analyzed revolution through the mirror of historical experience and reflect the current status of literature according to literature writing experience (including the interpretation of May 4th Enlightenment). He never forgot to comment on the literary through experience even if he took on heritage research. His ideology told him that experience is the embodiment of rationality. The emotional experience included in literary experience, and historical experiences interacts each other and form together the basis for enlightenment of empirical senseChapter four rethinks the results of Shen Congwen's enlightenment. This article studys enlightenment from its objects, purposes, the lack of field and the crisis legalization in hopes of revealing the internal causes of failure and finding the breakthrough for researching Shen Congwen's Enlightenment ideology. |
