George Gershwin is the outstanding composer of U.S.A in the 20thcentury. His greatest contribution is do a good combination of Traditional music and popular music. In his 39 years-long music career, he insisted his own composition concept, and composed a large amount of music works. form their own unique musical style. His music were always lasting monument in the hearts of Americans. To mark this outstanding composer the New York Phiharmonic concert every year in the form of playing the works of Gershwin.As a self-taught artists of American popular music, Gershwin's use of keen perception and good sense of music to completed many outstanding works. Such as Rhapsody in Blue,An American in Paris,Piano Concerto in F and Porgy and Bess . But Rhapsody in Blue is the milestone works. This article regards this work suite as research object, pass with research from the aspects of music analysis, Use of music history and music aesthetics combined approach, thinking about Gershwin's composition and creative process of growth. So that,, I can final interpretation of the traditional,modern and distinctly American flavor. There are seven chapters in this paper.The first chapter gives a account of his life and a brief description of important works of Gershwin. The second chapter deals with the situation of Rhapsody in Blue . The third chapter analyzes the work's text: including the musical form, tonality and subject characteristics. The fourth chapter summarizes the works of popular music elements, The fifth chapter fully analyses the structure of the collage-style characteristics of music, The sixth chapter discusses the characteristics of this work. The seventh chapter describes the basic image of Gershwin.
