Test The Impact Of Ruminative And Emotion On Overgeneral Autobiographical Memories Using A SCEPT

Autobiographical memory is the memory of the past self experience. Overgenerality of autobiographical memory(OGM)refers to that individuals can't retrieve specific events in a given time point,but trend to retrieve generic events.OGM appears to be a stable cognitive marker of clinical depression. Overgeneral memory(OGM)has been proposed as a vulnerability factor for depression or depressive reactivity to stressful life-events.One important underlying mechanism involved is rumination. And emotion also plays an important part. It is as yet unclear to what extent the relationship between rumination and OGM also applies to nonclinical groups.and whether OGM a function of current emotion state.Traditionally,a cue word procedure known as the Autobiographical Memory Test is used to assess OGM.Although frequently and validly used in clinical populations,there is evidence suggesting that the AMT is insufficiently sensitive to measure OGM in non-clinical groups.Study 1 evaluated the sentence completion method to assess OGMs.in students,as an alternative to the AMT.Participants were 60 students who completed the AMT,the Sentence Completion for Events from the Past Test(SCEPT), Results showed that the mean proportion of overgeneral responses was markedly higher for the SCEPT. Relative to the AMT,SCEPT is a more sensitive instrument to measure OGM,at least in non-clinical populations.and raes's study in 2007 is also verified.Study 2 investigated OGM in student sample,using an sentence completion SCEPT procedure to assess OGM.As hypothesized And whether reduced OGM could be induced in healthy students with no history of depression,the study use a 2x3 design,using a mood manipulation and whether levels of OGMs and induced mood were positively correlated.lt is divied three conditons:positive,negative,and neutral.And also the experimental induction of a concrete,process-focused(or non-ruminative)thinking styleled to less OGMs as compared to the experimental induction of an abstract,evaluative(or ruminative)thinking style. Results showed a reduction in OGMs following mood induction, had no effects on OGMs. The results suggest that OGMs is a not function of current emotion state. And also the present results add to the accumulating body of evidence that abstract,evaluative(or ruminative)thinking is a crucial underlying process of OGM,and expand by extending this idea to nonclinical individuals and by using a new procedure SCEPT to assess OGM.,And the OGMs is much more especially under ruminative when contains the positive cues.
