Reading plays an important role in daily life, and also for many students it is by far the most important of the four skills in foreign language learning. Many researchers have paid a lot of attention to reading in the past centuries and obtained some valuable findings. In the 1980s to 1990s reading researchers assumed that L1 reading ability transferred to L2 reading.Some theories of reading investigated for this experiment are based on these theories before conducting the experiment, such as reading models, reading variables, reading skills and its transferability. Based on the review of the relevant studies, the present study mainly talks about the nature of transfer and English reading ability, also uncovers other variables affecting the English reading process.Research shows during the course of senior high school teaching, the teachers just emphasize the training for College Entrance Examinations in which grammar and filling-up teaching can be seen all through classes. The students reduce the ability of reading. As a result,. it often found problems about the interference of mother tongue about English reading. From the linguistics angle to research, mother tongue is the most important reason to inference students' English reading. Thus it's urgent to explore the problems of the positive transfer used as a strategy in English reading. And take the advantage of the positive impact of Chinese on English reading in senior high school.According to the research, results of the analysis for the questionnaire demonstrate that reader purpose and the transfer of the Chinese language plays an important role in the improving of English reading ability when the students'words reach a special level. The author thinks the following aspects should be taken into account in order to stimulate the students'interest of reading. That is meeting the practical demands; practicing the task-based teaching pattern and strengthening the guidance on learning strategies consciously; leading the students to observe; finding and induce rules concealed; guiding them to practice, experience; enjoying and understanding English.
