The publication and implementation of the new Music Curriculum has been"the most profound practice and innovation of school music teaching ever since the founding of the People's Republic of China", it signals a new stage in the reform on the elementary music education in our country. However, compared with Han nationality district especially the developed Han nationality district, the curriculum reform of music education in minority regions exists special difficulties and problems because of regional, social, economic and cultural diversities, and these difficulties and problems needs intensive and special research badly.Linxia Hui autonomous prefectures are Hui ethnic community of Gansu province. On the base of theoretical study, document searching, field survey and the analysis of correlative statistical data, the present study provided the comprehensive elaboration on the present conditions in music teaching in this district. The author analyzed and discussed the problems and their causes in the implementation process of the new Music Curriculum and put forward some corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.The thesis constitutes three parts:The first chapter made a brief introduction on the music education development and traditional musical culture in Linxia. More concretely, the natural settings, ethical culture, population and the making of the nationalities were expounded, as well as the history of ethnic education and the basic situation of implementation of new Music Curriculum.The second chapter mainly focused on investigation and elaboration on the present status quo of music education. This section started itself from the collection related data and the analysis of the data as well as the practical implement of the new curriculum with regard to the rationality, course-book, the arrangement of the music and music teaching hardware to the inquiry of the education and profession and the music teachers and their understanding of new standard of music, and then pointed out some existing problems.The third chapter winded up the present study by providing problem analysis and the corresponding strategy in music teaching and learning. This part largely laid the stress on the rationality of the new curriculum and the assessment systems and the teaching settings. Most important, the existing problems were fully discussed in a stepwise manner. The alternative strategies and effective ways were also outlined.
