Athletes in Gansu province have advantages in Middle-distance race and some of them have emerged as excellent runners in recent years, though for quite a short period of time. All in all, they have not achieved breakthrough in sports techniques. According to a survey, teenager athletes of Gansu have advantages in bodily form, but lag behind other areas in physical efficiency and sports techniques. In view of that, it is necessary to study the on-the-way running techniques used by the teenager athletes of Gansu province in order to disclose the technical factors determining athletes'performance. This research involves all the 800-meter and 1,500-meter males and the first eight females who participated in the Gansu 2007 teenager track and field sports meet. By means of literature analysis, questionnaire, video analysis, experiments and statistics, this study aims at evaluating the on-the-way running techniques used by the teenager athletes of Gansu province in order to reveal the technical factors determining athletes'performance, which will lead to corresponding strategies for these problems. Our findings are as follows:1 The teenager athletes of Gansu province have as excellent bodily forms as those in other provinces. They are tall but less tightly-built.2 They are relatively poor in special qualities as a result of inadequate exercise intensity, which hinders them from progress.3 Male teenager athletes of Gansu are fairly competent in the last stage of the race, but have poor control of movements.4 The athletes have relatively short step lengths. This is chiefly due to less elasticity in the leg joints, poor bursts of energy and they lack of proper kicking skills.5 Teenager athletes in Gansu province don't have satisfactory balance as a result of inadequate killing and buffering skills insufficient ankle force and other movements.6 There is a discrepancy of competence between their two legs. As a result of the unequal exercise of the legs, they have improper kicking, overdone buffering and inadequate stretch of ankles.
