Design And Implementation Of Digital Library Resource Subject Gateway: DLRSG

Along with the development of the research and fulfillment of the digital library, lots of resources related to the theory and practice of digital library has been increasing rapidly. For the documentation and information institute, it's too important to organize these resources effectively and supply them to the users in a ordered way. In this paper, the concept of "subject gateway" is introduced to the development of the navigational system on digital library, and the idea of developing the system of "Digital Library Resource Subject Gateway (DLRSG)" is presented. As a subproject of "Chinese National Science Digital Library: Library Information Gateway", DLRSG focuses on the organization and order of the resources on digital library resources especially.This paper includes six sections.Based on the concepts of subject gateway and etc. the first section brings up the development of DLRSG.. The second section introduces the resource description and organizing mechanism of DLRSG, which comprises of metadata framework and knowledge organization system. It has been the foundation of the subject gateway system. The two later sections, as main part of the all paper, present DLRSG's function design and the system and database structures of it in detail. And then, the policy of resource building, including selection criteria and discovery strategies, is introduced in the fifth section. Additionally, exact numbers of the resource records of different types is appended with it. Based on all of the analysis before, the paper presents the realization of DLRSG system from two aspects: service interface of the end users and resource managers. And a generalreview of the DLRSG system is given.Finally, there is a summary of the whole process of DLRSG's construction. Some problems remained and solutions are discussed, and the prospect of DLRSG is also given at the end of paper.A few research methods have been adopted in this paper such as comparison method, analytic approach, case method, quantitative analysis, diagram method and etc. All paper includes 45,000 words, and there are 69 references, 40 charts and 11 tables within it.
