Network technology, communication technology, swift and violent development of multimedia technology make such new services and applications as e-commerce, teleeducation, video on demand, etc. the appearance like the mushrooms after rain. Traditional information, such as text, image have could not meet the needs of people, corresponding cartoon, video and audio become protagonist, transmit abundant media information combining with traditional text, image. And the high-speed development of storage technology, communication technology and video compress technology, make it become possible to carry on the resource demanding service through the broadband network.This text adopt to the technology of VOD system and the introduction to the technology of streaming media, put forward the solution of a kind of Multimedia Communication-on-Demand System finally. This scheme includes the systematic framework design, the program of server, server control panel and the media file convertor. This system has been solved to support the present major media's file especially, media server cluster, media server overload and protect, the velocity restraint of streaming media, media serverperformance optimizing. As to the thing that MPEG-1 form files as . MPEG and . DAT, etc. do not compress so better and the file is larger, take up resources of the network and system resource seriously while demanding, this system has realized a media file convertor program. Through solving above-mentioned problems, the media server can be more steady, better to offer service of demanding and multicast. At the end of the text, have optimized and appraised and provided the direction of future development of the system.
