Vocabulary is the building material of a language, it is one of the three elementary factors of a language. As an important part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, vocabulary teaching has been more and more attention. Teaching material is the basis of teaching and learning. It affects the teaching in a large extent. Vocabulary selection in the textbooks whether is scientific or not is directly related to the quality of the material. It also affects the teaching activities. So it is necessary to analyze the vocabulary and investigate the seletion whether is scientific reasonable and practical or not.The paper takes the very famous Chinese material Hanyu Jiaocheng as the research object and establishes a corpus of the text. Then we use the corpus retrieval software to do the quantitative research from the word frequency, word length and richness three aspects to analyze vocabulary characteristics. We also make a comparison among the new HSK、Meiti Gaopin Cibiao in Zhongguo Yuyan Shenghuo Zhuangkuang Baogao and the text. Then points out the problems existing in teaching vocabulary selection and puts forward the improvement opinion. Last, we use the quantitative method to make sure the four vocabulary growth model which one matches vocabulary growth of the text. With the data facts to analyze the existing problems in teaching material selection in vocabulary, and gives suggestions for vocabulary teaching and textbook writing.
