The primary content of this thesis is color and ink language symbols of Qian Xuan’s blue-green landscape painting. This thesis adopts the comparative and historical analysis methodology to compare the Qian Xuan’s blue-green landscape painting with the ancient painting. Take the Qian Xuan “Dwelling in the Mountains” for example, I study the color and symbols of the blue-green landscape and analyze the “retro” feelings in the thesis. Qian Xuan’s blue-green landscape painting not only inherited the tradition, but also kept on the innovation.Qian Xuan combined the Yuan dynasty’s blue-green landscape painting with the Song dynasty’s literati landscape painting, promoting the progress and development of the blue-green landscape painting. Qian Xuan’s paintings have light color and decorative meaning, getting rid of the original color by refining beauty from the nature. The purpose of changing the hue is looking for unique color in the flat paint painting, which gives us a sense of tranquility. In addition, the decorative symbols increased the vitality of his painting. The structure and texture of the rocks, the size and gesture of the trees, and the shape of the leaves are all have the artificial characteristics. All of these show us a sense of quiet and expressed the placid mentality of Qian Xuan.Qian Xuan combined poem, calligraphy and painting to express his elegant temperament and interest. Qian Xuan claimed that the core of the literati paintings is official script. He used the technique of calligraphy to express the literati temperament. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, the combination of poem, calligraphy and painting is widely appeared in the blue-green landscape painting, which has become the expression vector for literati painters to express emotion and thought. In short, Qian Xuan’s blue-green landscape painting laid the foundation for the development of landscape painting in the future, and provided a reference for the research and creation of blue-green landscape painting as well, what’s more, promoting the evolution and development of Chinese landscape painting.
