The Creation And Practice Of "Zhenzhen Dongdu"

Jianzhen is not only a spiritual card of Yangzhou, but also a very important figure who promotes the cultural exchanges between China and Japan. The story of Jianzhen’s voyage to Japan has been deeply rooted in our hearts. Jianzhen’s Japanese trip was full of difficulties, but he never thought to give up the voyage. Jianzhen is not afraid of hardship and is even willing to sacrifice himself for Buddha dharma. His spirits deserve our learning. The year of 2015 is the 2500th of the founding of Yangzhou. In order to praise and promote Jianzhen’s achievements and spirits, Jianzhen Memorial Hall has been built. Jianzhen Memorial Hall is located between Slender West Lake and Darning Temple. The sculptured group of Jianzhen’s voyage to Japan is the best finishing touch and the highest spirit of Jianzhen Memorial Hall. Via the participation, I have achieved a more profound understanding of the creation process, including data collection, design investigation, design draft modification, sculpture creation and installation. During the process of creating the sculptured group, we had a lot of difficulties, such us how to mold the character image, how to compose the sculpture, how to control the sculpture’s scale, how to coordinate the sculptured group and the whole Hall, and how to install the large sculpture. Under the guidance of our tutor, the creation team has solved the above problems one by one. The ideas and methods to solve these problems are difficult to learn in books. Through participating in the creation of the sculptured group, I have a deeper understanding to creating the sculpture and have accumulated a large amount of experience for my future creation. Besides, this creation also has provided the reference to the similar creation and research for the other practitioners.
