This study is based on the images from1978to2010, analysising the land use situation of Kuye River basin in the northern region of loess plateau, modeling the land type of the study area, at last, using the landscape index to analyze the landscape change in the whole region. During the pass32years, the land use and landscape pattern change significantly, the water area decrease46%, and the decline percentage of the bare land is the most that it’s about60%. It shows a sharp decrease after its growth. The grassland is always the dominant landscape type in the study area. The woodland and the grassland perform a decline first and then show a growth trend, the grassland increase sharply by32%. Residential, woodland, roads and mining area showing a increase trend, particularly the residential. From the land use change matrix from1978to2010, the land type stability is:residents>woodland>grassland> farmland>water> bare land. Building a cubic equation model to study the area of land type, the rate of change and change trends. From the view of landscape index, the single plaque area increase, the plaque types disperse, the plaque density is tend to increase whole, all show that the degree of fragmentation rise continusly. While the number of plaque increasing, the whole landscape type of heterogeneity also enhance. Disturb by human the landscape type became more complex, and each land type of the landscape structural change volatilly. At last, research the driving forces of LUCC from the demographic, economic and policy factors.
