Rapid maturation of embedded technology, makes the combination of GIS and embedded software and hardware become inevitable,at the same time,it also brought the infinite vitality for the development of GIS. Common characteristics of embedded devices are low power consumption, small size, light weight, removable. The core of Android-based embedded systems occupy a large market that because of it has developed convenient, free and low cost. Therefore, Android platform to become first of embedded geographic information system development.This paper aims to achieve an embedded geographic information system, which characterized by low-power, portable, occupy less memory space features. it not only has the scale, roaming, and other map display basic functions, but also with the amount of calculation, slope, profile, visibility and other terrain analysis. In addition, also realized the map service application of GPS positioning and application.First, this article describes a number of core principles and technologies which releted to the design of system, a detailed analysis of functionality and performance requirements of the system according to the system’s hardware architecture and software development environment; use UML modeling software requirements proposed system design; in accordance with the MVC structure analysis system software hierarchy, and complete the detailed modules according to the system functional requirements.Secondly, use a lot of space to describe the specific design and implementation of user interface, spatial data management, map generation, spatial data analysis module of the embedded GIS. On the basis of the system class software architecture, we completed the user interface design, reserved function interface of each module; we according to spatial data storage structure, complete access to spatial data, digital map generated.And on this basis, using the DEM elevation data model and bilinear interpolation algorithm to complete digital map terrain analysis, use the positioning mechanism of the Android system provides to complete the realization of GPS and application modules. Complete the important applications funcation that terrain analysis, GPS positioning and analysis applications.
