It is important to analyze the characteristics of forming of hydrocarbon pool in Liaohe tidal zone. Generally, there are many methods to study hydrocarbon accumulation. In geological frame, the theories of structural geology, sedimentary petrology, petroleum geology, and reservoir geochemistry and the data of petroleum geology, geochemistry, and geophysics are used to analyze basic geological conditions of reservoirs. The research of source rocks and crude oils in study area is the foundation of research on theories of hydrocarbon accumulation. In order to efficiently connect the processes of hydrocarbon generation, migration and accumulation, geochemistry which is a traditional method is utilized to do oil-source correlation. The results of oil-source correlation indicate that oils in western Tidal zone, Bijialing structural zones located in flank areas of Hainan Sag, and Hainan-Yuedong structural zones are mainly derived from E2S1 & E2S2 source rocks, while oils in western slope zone are derived from predominately E2S3 source rocks. We use source rocks of western Tidal zone because of limitation of source rock samples in eastern Tidal zone, therefore oils in this area are predicted to be derived from E2S3 source rocks. The study for hydrocarbon accumulation characteristics mainly includes structure and lithology of study area. Structural characteristics include the features of fault and unconformity. Faults are regarded as hydrocarbon migration pathway due to prevalent development of faults in this study area. Faults also have the function of sealing and have the promoter function to hydrocarbon accumulation. Base on the foregoing studies of sedimentary facies, some sandbodies are predicted to be reservoirs. The basinmod software is used to analyze the late hydrocarbon accumulation. This software can do conventional petroleum geology research including burial history, thermal history, generative & expulsive history of hydrocarbon, and migration & accumulation histories. All modules of softwares are connected and interactional. Based on simulation results, oil-source correlation, and homogenization temperatures of inclusions, hydrocarbon generation and expulsion, hydrocarbon accumulation dating and periods are confirmed, and then hydrocarbon accumulation patterns are established.
