Friction stir welding is a new type of solid-phase welding technology, compared toother conventional welding techniques, friction stir welding has many advantages, and italso has been widely used in various industry fields.This paper designed a controlsystem for an experimental friction stir welding equipment.In order to meet the needs ofvarious process experiments, the control system can achieve both the position controlwelding and the pressure control welding.Firstly, this paper analyzed the principle, characteristics and process requirementsof FSW technology, and also described and analyzed FSW equipment mechanical andhydraulic system components, functions and control requirements, provide referenceand basis for the control system designing.Secondly, we designed an overall scheme of the control system based on Simotion.,and furtherly made a detailed design of the hardware and software of the control systembased on the scheme.Thirdly, the paper established mathematical models of the cylinder’s position andforce control,and made an analysis of these models. This paper also designed an integralseparation PID control algorithm and made a simulation of the cylinder’s position andforce control model using this control algorithm.Through continuous experiments and analysis,we finally got proper PID controlparameters that can meet the control requirements.Besides,this paper also made acomparing experiment between the positon control welding and the force controlwelding, and made an analysis of the two welding methods.
