With the continuous development of NG-welding technology,Narrow gap weldinghas been widely used in chemical industry,military and other fields. This Situation putforward higher requirements of narrow gap welding seam tracking.On the basis ofdetailed investigation and analysis of narrow gap welding and seam tracking technologyover the world,a proposal of designing contact type seam tracking system fornarrow-gap welding on embedded control was presented. The seam tracking system wasachieved through hardware integration,control strategy planning and software design.Firstly,based on the theory of seam tracking system,an overall scheme of theseam tracking system on embedded control was determined. PIC18F4520,produced byMicrochip Corporation,was selected to be the core of the system. With the PIC chip asthe main control modules,The signal acquisition,processing circuits,actuator drivecircuits and other peripheral circuits was built.On the foundation of the narrow gap welding seam tracking hardware, the controlstrategy of the system was studied. Based on the PID control technology and embeddedtechnology, a PID control algorithm for the contact type NGW seam tracking systemwas established. And the control algorithm problem of the system was solved. WithPIC18F4520as core the hardware and the MPLAB IDE as core the software, controlsystem software was programmed. Including signal acquisition subprogram, trackingadjustment subprogram, and stepper motor driver subprogram.Finally,The contact type NWG Seam tracking system was texted by simulationexperiments,to verify the feasibility of PID control algorithm. And based on theexperimental results, the reason of the error was analyzed. The results of theexperimental experiments show that the contact type NWG seam tracking sensor and itscontrol system meet the needs of design.
