With the development of science and technology, the demand of miniature products has increased sharply in the field of high technology such as the national defense industry, biomedical, aerospace and microelectronics industries. Miniature products have small size, complex configuration and high accuracy. Compared with other micro fabrication technology, micro cutting technology possesses the advantages of high accuracy, low cost and high efficiency, it is particularly suitable for processing micro components with complex shape and the wide range of materials. Micro milling technology is one of the most flexible micro cutting technologies, which has a great potential of development and application prospect. In order to reduce the cost of machine tools and energy consumption, researchers at home and abroad are developing miniaturized cutting machine tools and miniaturized factory. At present, the research on micro machine tool in our country is still in the initial stage and it still has certain technology gap with abroad.Since the miniature products are of complex configuration and the ordinary three axis machine tool machining complicated surface of low efficiency, in order to meet the requirements of complex surface machining, the paper conducted five axis micro milling machine tool researches, and the main contents are as follows:(1) The paper firstly analyzes the research status of micro fabrication technology and micro cutting machine tools at home and abroad. On this basis, the paper carry out the overall scheme design of the five axis micro milling machine tool according to the machine tool technical parameters.(2) Through the analysis of key technologies of micro cutting machine tools and the design requirements, the paper completes the structure design of five axis micro milling machine tool, and finishes modeling and assembly in the Pro/E. This paper use direct drive technology to realize linear motions and rotary motions with high precision, fast response and good dynamic characteristics. The machine tool realizes sub-micron position precision through the high resolution measurement feedback system.(3) The static and dynamic characteristic analysis of the key structures of A-axis rotary table are finished in the ANSYS software. They verify whether the structure design can meet the design requirements and provide references for the structure optimization.(4) The paper established the motion simulation model of five-axis micro-milling machine tool for machine tool motion simulation in Pro/Mechanism kinematics simulation module, to detect collision and simulate the tool tip movement space;and the paper finishes the machining process simulation of five-axis micro-milling machine tool in the VERICUT software, to test whether it can complete the processing of specific shape, to test the collision between components and the motion of each axis, in order to ensure that the design of the whole structure of the machine tool is reasonable and practical.
