Tire pattern is an important part in tire design, the design quality directly affect the comfort and safety of vehicles. With the rapid development of tire industry, improve the design efficiency of3D pattern with CAD system has become the goal of many tire enterprises. However, most large CAD software is general platform, lack of the professional knowledge in tire pattern design field, and can’t meet the all-round requirements of tire enterprises. In view of the above requirements, the design knowledge of tire pattern is summarized, the concepts of tire pattern semantic unit are introduced, the design method of3D tire pattern based on semantic is proposed; realize presenting users’design-intent, and complete3D pattern design accurately and efficiently.Firstly, the existing3D tire pattern design method and processes were studied, and the concepts of tire pattern semantic unit are introduced, and the design method of3D tire pattern based on semantic is proposed. Secondly, combined with the above design method, an3D tire pattern CAD system is realized by way of secondary development in CATIA platform, and the semantic module of the system is divided in detail, the implementation scheme of the system is expounded, and the technology of CATIA secondary development is introduced in detail. Then, the implementation of deferent semantic units is discussed; the relevant algorithms and methods are given. Finally, the specific implementation process of the system is analyzed in detail, and the relevant examples are introduced briefly, and the system was tested by engineers.According to the actual needs of tire industry, this paper puts forward the tire3D tire pattern design method based on semantics, and developed a CAD design system based on CATIA platform. The design instance and test show that the system can complete the common tread design fast and efficient, and satisfy the actual requirements of tire enterprises.
