Height datum unification is one of main problems of sea Island and reefs mapping, in the paper, owing to the ATR (automatic target recognition) function of intelligent total station, and in the secondary development environment of GEOCOM, an automatic measurement system of triangular elevation has been developed, With the application of GPS point position data and Intelligent Total Station (Leica TCA2003 Series Total Station), the sea-crossing trigonometric level transfer is researched, integrated GPS technology and Intelligent Total Station, automatic trigonometric leveling is made, which provides a new idea and approach for the precise sea-crossing elevation transfer.In this paper, an theoretical analysis on trigonometric leveling precision is made, and the distance, angle, deflection of the vertical, atmospheric refraction effects and other errors are analyzed; to some extent, atmospheric refraction is study, through trigonometric leveling experiment using two methods of approximate reciprocal observation and double-run observation, the difference between two methods on weaking refractive error influence is analyzed and compared; automatic target recognition functionality and development environment of the intelligent total station is also study, through experiment testing and analysis angular precision and distance accuracy. This paper mainly introduces the overall design of automatic trigonometric leveling system based on intelligent total station, and makes a secondary development on the Leica measuring Georobot, by taking Visual Basic as the programming environment, as well as using database technology to achieve a variety of data storage and management. Automatic trigonometric leveling system has the major functional modules of initializing equipment, automatic search combining GPS point data, automatic measurement and so on, after conducting the theoretical testing, characteristics of automation, high efficience, and accuracy has been proved.
