Grinding process plays an essential role in the whole mineral processing industry, itsquality and output directly influences the whole economic benefits. Grinding process is acomplex circulation system, it has the large inertia, pure lag time, serious nonlinear andcoupling among parameters, the best mill load area also has the time-varying. In China,beneficiation automation technology began in the middle of20thcentury, relative to somecountries started later. At present, most domestic mill plant used artificial monitoring,due to the grinding process need all-day monitoring, so it took a lot of manpower andmaterial resources, and affected by man-made factors and cannot adjust the controlparameters accurately, sometimes even making the whole system oscillation frequently,and it causes accidents; some larger mill plants also can’t obtain good control effectadopting the conventional PID control.Based on the above characteristics of the grinding process, designed an expertcontrol system for actual situation of it, summarized the expert control rules of “owemill”,“normal”,“best load”,“standard full mill”,“full mill” and “get a belly”,implementing the expert control for running state of ball mill; also designed a real-timeintelligent controller combined fuzzy control, optimal control and conventional PIDcontrol, it not only has the characteristics of good stability and high reliability, but alsomakes the mill load stay in the best range.This article will design a DCS combining the expert control system with industrialcontrol computer, it divided into production management layer, monitoring operationallayer and control layer.This paper designed an expert control system for a mill plant in Chengde, ensuringthe stable running of grinding process and increasing its economic benefits, also achievedthe purpose of saving energy and reducing consumption; the expert control systemcombined with industrial control computer to the plant’s actual condition, the design ofDCS to implement the original control integration.
