Belt conveyor plays a very important role in coal mine production and transportation. It is not only used to carry the coal, but also used for personnel transportation. Coal miners can get in and out of the mine through the belt conveyor. In this article, the question of belt conveyor’s slowing down of Tong Chuan mine when coal miners go down into the miners has been studied. In order to ensure the normal operation, a new kind of hydraulic brake system has been designed. The hydraulic system can make the belt conveyor run in different working conditions, such as normal start, working brake, emergency brake, power outage brake and stable running in a certain velocity.Because of the lack of original design information, firstly, it analyzed the mechanical structure and operating principle of the belt conveyor, meanwhile, it checked the force applied on major components. Then it arranged and analyzed drive components of cable belt conveyor, drive power and braking torque has been calculated and the question of the belt’s synchronization has been analyzed. Finally, according to the calculation and check results it has designed a new hydraulic brake system and control system.In order to ensure the safe brake when the hydraulic brake system sudden power outage, the hydraulic system mainly used the accumulator charging valve to charge the accumulator. In order to control the braking torque and regulate the belt speed, electricity-liquid proportion overflow valve was used.Single-chip microcomputer was adopted to decide whether electricity-liquid proportion overflow valve is connected to the brake in the control system. Amplifier was adopted to control the current of electromagner which can control the braking torque and stabilize the belt speed.
