On the basis of photometry and colorimetry, a measurement system is designed for reflectance and transmission of materials and its colorimetric parameters using spectrophotometric method. In this dissertation, the scheme of this system is introduced mainly on the spectrophotometric measurement for the materials; In addition, as the extended application of this instrument, the spectral measurement and its colorimetric evaluation of light sources and other self-luminance object are also discussed. A CCD is adopted as the spectral detector of the designed system, and a photo-diode as the monitor of the light source. PC software is designed, using Borland C++ Builder, to carry out the functions of spectrophotometrics calibration, spectral sampling, data processing, colorimetric evaluation, and etc., so that the measurement for the reflectance and transmission of materials can be realized satisfactorily.This dissertation consists of eight chapters. In the first chapter, the current circumstance is described for the spectrophotometric characteristics of materials related industry in the world and their history. The emphases are put on the importance of such spectral measuremets in industrial applications, so that the objective and task of this study are presented. The 2nd chapter introduces the related basic theories of photometry and colorimetry and the background of the corresponding applications. The 3rd chapter presents the overall scheme that concerns about the design of the system's configuration, spectrophotometric calibration, and the measurement method. In the 4th chapter, the hardware of this system is described with the different modules in details, and the applicable methods to implement these functions are also issued. The 5th chapter introduces the design details of the test and control software on PC, which realize the measurement of reflectance and transmission of materials with the instrument. The 6th chapter gives the accuracy and precision of this system based on the practical measurement experiments using ten standard reflectance and transmission plates, which show that the performance of this instrument reach the predetermined technical demand and can be applied to the related industries; The 7th chapter extends the system to the use of spectral measurement of light source and other self-luminance objects, including the colorimetric evaluations of correlated color temperature (CCT) and color rendering index. In the 8th chapter, the research work and related designs are summarized, and then some possible improvements are prospected so that more excellent performance of this system is looked forward.
