The process mineralogy is a discipline of studying the ore property, it has the important function in guiding mineral separation. The process mineralogy research on the nickel ore of Jinping No. 1 lithosome provided the theory basis for mineral separation and guide the test carrying out.The nickel ore of Jinping No. 1 lithosome is the low-grade ore. The grade of run-of ore is 0. 635%. Nickel mineral is the main recovered element in mineral processing. The ore is composed of 30 kinds of minerals, the nickel mineral is mainly nicopyrite and the gangue minerals are chlorite, talc and so on. The size of nicopyrite is fine and the distribution is heterogeneous in the ore, the maximum is 0.2mm and the minimum is samller than 0.0005mm. Nicopyrite forms the paragenetic relationship with pyrrhotite, chlorite, chalocopyrite, magetite,hematite, quartz, calcite,actionlite and so on. In paticular, it has close association with pyrrhtite. The majority of nicopyrites is wraped or incrusted in the pyrrhotite by the finely granular, tiny granular and microgranular, or adjoin pyrrhotite. The liberation of nicopyrite is bad, and the liberated is few by rough grounding. To sum up we know, the mineral component of this ore is complex, and the property is special, so it is difficult to separate.After studying the ore property in detail, the rational separation process has been put forward in term of the theory. It provided the reliable theory basis for the next mineral processing test. The program that is worth consideration is as follows: the selection of single flotation plan, the process of non-desliming, the depression of phrrotite and so on.In the foundation of process mineralogy research, we took the conclusion of process mineralogy research as the guidance, and the carried out the open circuit test that comprises twice roughing, twice scavenger, triple cleaning, regriding and recleaning of scavenger froth. At last we abtain the result that, the grade of Ni concentrate is 3.24% and the recovery of Ni is 65.74%. Base on the open circuit test, we also carried out two kinds of closed circuit test:(1) the closed circuit test returning the middling to the frontal work;(2) the closed circuit test gathering the middling and scavenger froth into regrinding , then returning the recleaning middling what produced in the circuit to the frontal work. The result showed that two kind of process to recover the nickel are all effective. The index of the second circuit test and stability of result are better.
