The mold level control system is crucial to increase output and improve the slab quality in the continuous casting process. The mold level control system can stabilize level of mold. It enhance efficiency of the primary cooling. So it will increase casting output, improve quality, reduce labor intensity of workers and accident. Mold level control system of continuous casting steel involves uncertainty model and time-variation model, For example, erosion of the tundish stopper, change of casting speed and mold oscillation and so on. So it is difficult to stabilize mold level for traditional PID controller.Based on the careful analysis on the whole of casting process, searches a lot of information on casting, and scrupulous research on the controller which applied to the mold level control system. A fuzzy self-tuning PID parameters and a fuzzy hybrid controller is adopted in this paper. The self-tuning PID parameters controller is based on the normal PID controller. In this controller the fuzzy module is applied to adjust the PID parameters:kp and ki. Fuzzy controller is used to restrain system overshoot.Reasonable self-tuning parameter module and fuzzy controller are based on the careful analysis on the PID theory, Fuzzy theory and experience of worker.The result of simulation manifests that this mold level control system has the following character:small overshoot, short transient and small stabilizing error. The result shows the mold level control method is effective and feasible.
