Objective: Gene mutation is known to play an important role in carcinogenesis. The purpose of this study is in order to investigate the expression and clinical significance of pl6INK4a and p14ARF in cutaneous basal and squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: The expressions of pl6INK4a and p14ARF were detected by S-P immunohistoehemistry in 25 basal cell carcinoma,18 squamous cell carcinoma and 20 normal skin specimens. SPSS statistical software was used in this study. Results: The positive staining of pl6INK4a and p14ARF was observed in nuclei.â‘ The positive expression rate of pl6INK4a in cutaneous BCC and SCC was statistically lower than that in normal skin specimens(P<0.05).â‘¡The positive expression rate of p14ARF in cutaneous BCC and SCC was statistically lower than that in normal skin specimens(P<0.05).â‘¢The positive expression rate of pl6INK4a and p14ARF were no significantly associated in BCC,SCC and normal skin specimens(p>0.05). Conclusion:The low expression of p14ARF and pl6INK4a might contribute to the occurrence and development of cutaneous BCC and SCC. pl6INK4a and p14ARF may be a good skin tumor marker.
