Objective To investigate the expression of microvessel density(MVD) and Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in colorectal neoplasm and their clinical significances. Methods The expression of MVD and VEGF in 59 patients with colorectal cancer and 16 patients with adenomas and 12 normal patients were investigated using immunohistochemical staining. Results The positive rates of VEGF and MVD in colorectal cancer were significantly higher than that of adenomas (P <0.05). It was significantly different from Dukes stage, it was significantly higher in Dukes C,D stage than in A stage ,A+B stage than C+D stage(P <0.05). MVD were correlated with differentiation, but VEGF were correlated without differentiation. It was significantly different, the positiverates of MVD and VEGF in colorectal cancer with lymph node or liver metastasis were higher than without(P <0.05). It was remarkably different between the cases with recurrence and without(P <0.05). Conclusion Over-expression of VEGF and MVD in colorectal neoplasm was likely to show carcinomatous change and an increased character of metastasis. The increased MVD and VEGF in colorectal cancer implied that there were invasion for recurrence and metastasis.
