| Zhang Zhong Jing (å¼ ä»²æ™¯)who was a well-known traditional Chinese medical physician, whom had lived the period towards the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. He was the founder of clinical practice in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of the Golden Chamber were two of his very famous writings in the principles of clinical TCM diagnostic and treatment procedures, which had advanced on the basic knowledge of TCM, as well as explored the integration of herbal medicine into clinical treatments. These books not only formed a firm foundation in the field of diagnosis and treatment for all disciples of TCM, but also set a good example in TCM clinical practice. This paper explored the basic principles adopted by Zhang Zhong Jing in clinical diagnosis and treatments, and also the different medical approaches used in clinical practice as discussed in Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of the Golden Chamber.The clinical procedures adopted by Zhang Zhong Jing, have been widely practised in the treatments of recurring mouth ulcers, even till today. In many cases, the results of the treatments were satisfactory and promising. However, in the recent decades, followers of TCM practice also invented other similar treatment procedures, for example, in slowing down and regulating the functions of the heart and stomach, as well as replenishing the Yin to aim calming the accumulated heat in the body. These methods were evidently modified from the traditional clinical practice invented by Zhang Zhong Jing, in which the followers used them as templates to evolve new effective methods in finding the root causes of mouth ulcers.
