Objective:The standardization of syndrome is the focus in the scientific research of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).The syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen is one of the frequent syndromes in the clinical work of the TCM. Many researchers have studied on it from different aspects. The study is financed by national natural science foundation of China (NSFC). The purpose of this research is to explore the features of the TCM syndrome of stagnation of Liver-qi and deficiency of Spleen-qi of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). In this research, the methods of psychological rating will be applied. It is expected to provide evidences for a more understanding of the TCM syndrome by analysing manifestations from both macrosopical aspect, such as psychological symptoms, and microcosmic aspect, such as hormones and cytokines which are related to the function of HPA-axis and Neuro-Endocrine-Immune network in the study. And the evidences for preventing and treating the diseases through Chinese Medicine and the TCM syndrome will also be provided. Methods:In the resaerch, firstly we clooected patients according to the diagnostic standard of CFS,CHB and syndromes. Then we compared the scores of the clinical symptoms obtained through such as FS,FAI,HAMD,HAMA,PSQI,SF-36, together with PES psychological expermental measurement system of Beijing university and the changes of biological indexes related to neuro-endocrine-immune system and matched with the syndrome of Damp-Heat and health control group, disscussed the characteristics of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen.Results:1 The characteristic of the macroscopic symptoms of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the SpleenWe analysed the degree of clinical symptoms of patients. Fatigue, restlessness, forgettery, aprosexia, headache, insomni, myalgia and arthralgia are the sympotoms of the standard of CFS, their degree of the syndromes of Damp-Heat are as high as the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen. Though precipitance and dumps are the symptoms of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen, there is no difference between the group of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen and the syndrome of Damp-Heat, so they may be the familiar symptoms of CFS. In addition, the degree of the sympotoms such as dizziness, heart-throb, vexation, more dreams, tardy thinking, susceptibility to sighing and thirsty and like drinking water are no contrast between both syndromes, so they may be the familiar symptoms of CFS. The symptoms of scanty dark urine, fullness in the epigastrium and unsmooth defecation of the group of the syndrome of Damp-Heat are more serious than the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen. But the symptoms of tinnitus and chest pain represent opposition; the degrees of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen are more serious than the syndrome of Damp-Heat. So they are own symptoms of different syndromes and related to their pathological mechanism.More research results have indicates that the patients of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen have more obvious body fatigues than the syndrome of Damp-Heat, and the rest and sleep can't mitigate fatigue. Their hypnogogic of time lengthens, the time of sleep shortens, efficient of sleep drops, obstacle of sleep aggravates, and the daily function descends. The patients of CFS have lightly depression and anxiety, and the two symptoms do not differ between the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen and the syndrome of Damp-Heat.The rank of attention, recognition, short-term memory and space-location memory have no contrasts between both syndromes of CFS, but the rank of short-term memory of CFS increases compared with CHB. It miplies that the ability of shart-term memory of CFS is better than CHB.The quality of life of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen of CFS is worse than the syndrome of Damp-Heat, including the general health perceptions, physical functioning, role limitations due to physical health and social functioning. In addition, the study indicates that such scales as FS, FAI, PSQI, HAMD, HAMA and SF-36 can be the objective instruments to measure TCM symptoms. It can offer a way for standardization of symptoms of TCM.2 The changes of neuro-endocrine-immune system of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen Summarily, there are disorders of the immune function of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen of CFS. Serum IGG, IGA, CD3, CD4, CD8, NK, T%, TH% and TH% of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen of CFS are lower than the healeh control group. The amount and activity of NK cells of the syndrome of Damp-Heat of CFS are a littler lower than the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen of CFS, but the SIL-2R of the syndrome of Damp-Heat is higher than the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen. So the immune function of the different syndromes is distinctive.Plasma ACTH and cortisol are not distinct different from each group. So it can not be concluded that there are disorders of function of neuro-endocrine system of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen of CFS.3 The relation between symptoms and changes of neuro-endocrine-immune system The study of the relation between symptoms and changes of neuro-endocrine system implies that such symptoms as sleep, fatigue, life quality and cognitive ability have close relation with the functions of neuro-endocrine-immune system. Though the inter relation ang effect between them need more exploration, these symptoms of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen of CFS have substantial base. Conclusion:On the whole, the patients of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen of CFS have physiological and psychological abnormal manifestation; they also have decrease of the immune function; and there are relationships between the symptoms and the changes of neuro-endocrine-immune system. This result not only can settle a base of the study of standardization of the syndrome stagnation of the Liver-qi and deficiency of the Spleen, but also can supply the reference for TCM to treat CFS. In addition, the application of scales such as FS, FAI, PSQI, HAMD, HAMA and SF-36 can be the objective instruments to measure the TCM symptoms, supplying a way for standardization of symptoms of TCM.
