Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease which manifests as symmetry, erosive and progressive arthritis. Presently both their etiology and pahtogenesis are lack of precise understanding; treatment has failed cure it so far. The main objections of treatment of RA are that: 1. release joint pain and swelling 2. Prevent form damage of synovitis, cartilage and bone destruction 3. Balance abnormal immune system 4. Maintain and rebulit joint function, decrease the duration of disease, and improve the quality of life. Wether RA in active stage can be treated timely and effectively is basement to achieve the above objections. This study aimed to investigate distribution of TCM Syndrome in active RA and the correlation with objective indicators, to provide princiople for syndrome differetation and improve the clinical diagnosis and treatment of this disease.Method: a retrospective study was done on Patients with active RA patients who were adimited in our hospital. A special scale for the research was designed for investigation. And basic information such as gender, age, course of diseases, laboratory indicators and main clinical symptoms were collected. The syndrome differetination is according to " clinical guide Principles for the treatment of new Chinese medicine herbs " which contains, Bi-obstruction of–cold-damp, Bi-obstruction of damp-heat, Colletral-obstruction of blood statsis liver and kidney yin deficiency, qi and yin deficiency and Bi-obstruction of phlegm. All the datas were collected and analysed with application of SPSS13.0.Results: no significant difference about age, sex between different syndrome (F = 1.063, P> 0.5); great difference about course of diseases in different syndrome; Bi-obstruction of damp-heat with longest duration and liver and kidney with shortest duration (F = 3.067, P <0.01). No differentce about PLT in all the syndrome. (F = 1.178, P> 0.05); no difference about ESR in different syndrome (F = 0.676, P> 0.05); no difference about CRP in different syndrome (F = 1.606, P> 0.05); Logistic regression analysis between major Syndrome manifestation and related factors showed that the Bi-obstruction of damp-heat syndrome mainly correlate with skin fever, swelling heat and pain of joint, red tongue with yellow greasy coating and poor appretite. Stasis of damp-heat syndrome correlate with restricted joint activities, morning stiffness, skin fever, aggravation at night, Shezhianhong is related. Conclusion: 1. the main pathogenesis of active RA disease are Bi-obstruction of damp-heat syndrome and Stasis of damp-heat syndrome. 2. the two syndromes have high correlacne with imflamatary indicators. 3. for Active RA, in addition to pain, joint swelling, symptoms of restricted activities of joint, morning stiffness skin fever, pain aggravation at night, dark red tongue mainly correlate with Stasis of damp-heat syndrome and symptoms of skin fever, swolling, pain of joint, red tonue with yellow greasy coating and poor apperatite mainly correlate with the Bi-obstruction of damp-heat..
