Objects: To study changes of the serum sVCAM-1 and brain CT value inpatients with HIE, as well as the variations of them.It can be used to provide the objective evidence in early diagnosis, evaluation the degree of brain damage and study the pathogenesis of HIE.Methods: The serum sVCAM-1 levels were measured by ELISA in 30 HIE and 20 healthy neonates. CT values were obtained with huanxing Simens type of CT in acute stage and one month.Meanwhile, collecting the clinical information. Results: The serum sVCAM-1 levels in neonates with HIE at the acute stage were significantly higher than those of control group. At the acute stage the serum sVCAM-1 levels were significantly higher than those of recovery stage. There were no significant difference between the recovery stage and control group. The brain frontal, temporal lobe CT values of HIE group were lower than control group at the acute stage. With correlation analysis, negative correlations were founded between serum sVCAM-1 and brain CT values at the acute stage. It alse were shown between serum sVCAM at the acute stage and brain CT values a month after birth. Conclusions: VCAM-1 may be involved in the pathogenesis of HIE ,and it can aggravate the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. Acute phase serum sVCAM-1 level and brain CT show siginificance on the assessment of brain injury of HIE;The acute phase serum sVCAM-1 level has a certain value to assess the prognosis of HIE .
