And here is the conclusion:the cause of damp disease is inclined to external dampness, combined with wind and cold;the pathogenic factors always attack the musles and joints;and it mainly menifests as fever,heavy limbs,sour bones and dysphoria.In this subject,we established two basic principles treating dampness:slight sweating and inducing urination.Based on the general review about sweating treatment,especially Zhang Zhongjing's idea about its therapeutic range,precautions and contraindication,we emphasize particularly on the foundation,requirement,implementation method and characteristics of Zhang's slight sweating treatment over dampness.Slight sweating treatment showed Zhang's consideration to both qi and pathogen:profuse sweating could dispel wind but not dampness,but slight sweating is able to dispel both of them while saving body fluids and the stamach Qi.The general requirement of slight sweating treatment is continuous light sweating all over the body.The greatest features and keys of slight sweating treatment are reasonable syndrom differentiation,herbs compatibility, dosage choosing,decoction mathod,close nursing and a series of other measures.This article gave a thorough discussion over the above aspects,integrated with some interrelated provisions.Inducing urination is not the main treatment for external dampness,and it was only mentioned in Zhang's book when there were internal dampness.Some doctors after Zhang pointed out that inducing urination could sooth the activities of Qi,which is propitious to the dispersal of external dampness.In this article,we also talked about the relationships between slight sweating and inducing urination.Accordong to Zhang Zhongjing,in treating dampness,profuse sweating,fire and catharsis are forbidden,but there were no details.This article extented the interrelated provisions in《Treatise on Febrile Diseases》,analysed the causes of the mistreatments, manifestations of complication syndromes and the saving meanings,especially over the fire mathod.Taking epidemic febrile disease school as an example,this article discussed the profound influence of Zhang Zhongjing's treating dapmness principles over the generations. Mostly,we talked about mechanisms and treating principles,leaving little content for herbs and prescriptions.Slight sweating is always an inevitable way in treating external dampness.However,dapmness can be devided in to exterior and interior types,hence the treatments superior and inferior,which inspired we doctors with treating mathods over dampness in respectively three jiao.Theories emphasizing Qi activity or even the"Activating Yang"thoery are further development and sublimation of urination inducing mathod.This article also gave an comprehensive analysis over the contraindications according to various syndrom differentiations.
