Objective To know about the status of obesity in 20-45 years old persons in Shanghai and find the different behaviors and practice related overweight and obesity among the characteristic persons.Methods A systematic random sampling method was applied to select 1000 adults in 18 districts in Shanghai.This survey was a transverse section survey. The survey was done by tospective questionnaire by telephone, Door-to-door and Intercept Interview, while the height, weight, diet pattern and nutrition structure, and daily living and behavior were measured. Result Among 1000 respondents are 50% male and 50% female, of which 15.6% were overweight and 6.4% obesity. The figures are lower than them of 18-45 years old, of which 27.7% overweight and 10.4% obesity in ; The overweight and obesity rate of male were 19.4%, 8.6% and female, 12%, 4% respectively, with male significantly higher than female (P<0.01); The BMI of overweight and obesity among male were 25.25, 31.03, and female, 25.49, 30.02 respectively, with male significantly higher than female (P<0.01); The sex difference in overweight and obesity differed among education advantage and age groups.78.57% male and 96.25 female of overweight and obesity could describe the weight status exactly. 8.33% male and 31.67% female among normal weigt thougt that their weights were oveght or obesity.And female would more likely to overestimate the status of their weight (P<0.01). Among 220 overweight and obesity, they had adopted 3 ways to control weight measures, physical exercise, diet control and medicine. Compared to 50.88% male of overweight and obesity had adopted physical exercise, 46.93% diet control and 10.61% medicine among female. Logistcis showed that sex, ages, education, diet pattern, transpatation behavior, sleep state, time of sitting manner and so on are related with overweight and obesity. 12% female had used weight loss products, 23.40% had not consulted with doctors or professionals before bought products, 90.7% had no idea about the function and ingredients of weight loss products, cared about the issures while were choising which one to take were effect (76%), side effect ( 66.3%), price (48%) respectively and 37.7% decided to take which one by themselves. Conclusions Overweight and obesity should have affected nearly 20% of 20-45 years old in Shanghai, and was still a threatening hazard to resident's health.Overweight and obesity are related to diet, exercises and the other factors. The sex differed among awareness of weight control. It is hight time to popularize knowledge about body weight control, change unhealthy lifestyles and advocate a combined therapy "balanced diet+ appropriate exercises+mental health" to prevent the overweight and obesity.
