Chinese character teaching has always been regarded as the weak link in the field of Teaching Chinese, but also it is indispensable. How to improve teaching efficiency has been attracted more and more attention of most language teachers and scholars. The degree in knowing how many characters has a close bearing on the learners'level of Chinese language. At the moment, character teaching is still on the edge of TCSL. Influenced by western linguistics, and character has been continually regarded as a client to the language, making related studies depreciated without any formation of corresponding theory system and teaching conception.This paper starts with the own characteristics of Chinese character, analyzes the status of TCLS, sums up the rules with combination of the development of modern psychology, especially interpretation of language learning theory by cognitive psychology, and consequently constructs a good lesson in character. By making psychological knowledge integrate into the class, I believe TCSL can enjoy a multiple effort.This thesis develops itself in three chapters:Chapter One, the part of introduction, explains the proposition, purpose and meaning of subject as well as the status of TCSL. It is focused on the aim, content, method, and process of TCSL. Moreover, in the light of application of cognitive linguistics and cognitive psychology in and analysis of the problems existing in TCSL, this chapter finds the optimum combining point between psychology and TCSL, for the sake of strategy study on TCSLChapter Two:Review of Cognitive Psychology on Chinese character and the teaching of Chinese character. This chapter can be divided into two parts. The first part is mainly about Chinese Character Recognition. Chinese characters are ideographic morpheme letters, with the shape playing an utmost role in learning. However, mainly due to the thinking differences of morpheme letters and alphabetic letters, it is difficult for foreign students to manage the shape of Chinese character. This part discusses in detail about basic units in Chinese Character Recognition,shape and orthography as well as symmetric structure in Chinese character, and analyzes the teaching theory with combination of psychology and cognitive linguistics in order to draw much enlightenment from them. The second part is analysis of phonetic words. It makes an analysis of phonetic words which comprise over 80% in Chinese character population from different angles. Based on understanding of the rules about token font style and phonetic symbol, foreign students can distinguish between font style and phonetic complement. Moreover, researches into teaching methods and principles of phonetic words are done in this section.Some ideas on the construction of TCSL are presented in Chapter Three. On the bases of summary upon the existing rules, this part develops the practical meaning of psychology and cognitive science, and brings forward some problems in TCSL and demands on teachers after considering and analyzing the characteristics and psychology of the teaching object. Finally, with combination of the cognitive laws of foreign students, a teaching model of Chinese character is designed and presented under the current teaching condition to improve classroom teaching effect and find an effective approach to the current TCSL...
