The theory of Humanistic Psychology, which sprang up in 1960s, emphasized the educational ideas of people oriented. It played an important role in promoting the transformation, that is, in the past we only cared about how the teacher taught, but at present we should pay more attention to how the students learn. More and more scholars realize the importance of doing research on affective problems in education. Being mainly a process of memory, language learning is deeply influenced by affection. In China, Standard of English Curriculum, issued by Educational Department in 2001, has brought affection into the objectives of education. It points out that the affective factor is the most important part both in learning and teaching. As a new milestone for national educational history, it greatly pushed the development of the research on foreign language teaching forward and requires that teachers should master how to put the affective factor in teaching. However, across the current teaching conditions, there is one phenomenon paying little attention on affection.The ultimate goal of modern education is to help students achieve a comprehensive development. In recent years, language scholars begin to lay emphasis on the important role of affection in well-round development of students and care for the connection between affection and cognition. For the tight connection between affection and language learning, we should pay more attention on it and employ the related strategies to help students overcome affective barriers and optimize English teaching.This paper, based on the latest theories of educational psychology and methodology in foreign language teaching, tries to prove that it can be useful in educating students'positive and healthy affection on the condition that we employ suitable teaching strategy in language learning.After reviewing the historical background of affective teaching, this paper lists affective factors and related strategy processing which was based on the research of affective teaching both at home and abroad, especially in linguistics. Through the research on the related theory of affective teaching and affective factors, the author analyses connotation and rules of affective teaching according to its definition, character and function. With combination to teaching practice, the author did a deep research on the application of affective strategies in college English teaching through questionnaire and data analysis. Meanwhile, the author provides some ways to solve problems existing in English teaching from aspects of strategy and function. The author also points out what we should pay more attention in practical teaching. Finally, the author comes to the conclusion that emphasizing affective teaching in class can optimize teaching process and positive affective factors can help to improve ways of students'learning and self-confidence.In China, the research on the relationship between affection and language learning strategy is a new phase. Wish this paper can stimulate in-depth research on this field.
