Construct Women: "mizhi Po Yi" Image Analysis

In many gender studies, female image is one of the topics that draw a lot of scholars'attention. The social gender researchers insist that the female image carries much cultural significance, conveys intensive ideology when it comes into being. With the construction of social culture, it gradually becomes stereotype which shows the expectation of the society for woman."Women of Mi Zhi"which is not only a woman group image but also a kind of social culture, is attached great importance to as group image in recent years.They exhibit kinds of virtues praised by people and reflect a certain social gender regulation. From the perspective of gender construction from discourse, this thesis interprets the image of "Women of Mi Zhi" and analyzes the power relation between the construction and being constructed of gender, which is displayed in the image itself. This study is a new attempt to make the image of "Women of Mi Zhi" access to academic world, meanwhile, it is a continuation of social gender study and application. This thesis consists four chapters.The first chapter mainly deals with the concepts and theories. Firstly, "Mi Zhi" and "Women" these two concepts are explained, then "Women of Mi Zhi" is defined. Finally, the theories on social gender, discourse and power construction are briefly introduced.The second chapter discusses the mainstream discourse construction in the evolution of the image of "Women of Mi Zhi". The development of the image of "Women of Mi Zhi" is researched in the 20th century. The construction of the image of "Women of Mi Zhi" produced by the mainstream of the cultural, political, economic discourse in given history is studied. Through the connected documentation and the image of Women of Mi Zhi exhibited in the Hall of Women of Mi Zhi to concentrate on the construction of the image of Women of Mi Zhi. In addition, their inner words and real experience are known and the evolution of the subject consciousness from the group image of woman is perceived through different individuals'exact discourse.In the third chapter,the two characteristics of the image of "Women of Mi Zhi "are analyzed at the very beginning, then its three types, typical image, model image and representative image in male supremacy culture are interpreted to reveal the nature of being constructed of "Women of Mi Zhi"The fourth chapter mainly concerns the analysis of woman group showed by the image of "Women of Mi Zhi".The questionnaire data and interviews will help us know that how the local men think of the ordinary women in Mizhi and their gender consciousness.At the same time, how they feel as ordinary women in reality is discussed with the honorary title "Women of Mi Zhi".
