Regarding the Buddhist work the Biography of Eminent Monks as a work of biography literature, and against the background of time and culture, this thesis discusses its stylistic layout, the narrating craftsmanship and the biography artistry, so as to comprehensively investigate and deeply excavate its literary value that have been neglected. The thesis includes three sections. In the instruction, we analyze the current situation of the study in the Biography of Eminent Monks, and expound the reasons as well as the significance we write this paper. In chapter I , from the aspects of the text and the eulogy, we reveal the initiating merits of the work in stylistic layout. In chapterII, the narrative artistry are probed, where the narrating pattern and narrating techniques are regarded as the focal points. In chapter III, we try to project the distinctive artistry of the Biography of Eminent Monks in characterization in the angles of feeling expressing, personage evaluation, and detail description. Then, in the conclusion, the breakthrough as well as the deficiency of the work in biography artistry is generalized, and its influence on the monks' biography creation in the late ages is discussed too.
