Nietzsche stated that Greek tragedy generated by the contradiction between Appollo and Dionysus. But the rationalism(Socratic represents) restricted the Dionysrac Spirit, and this caused the degeneration of Greek tragedy and Hellenism finally. Seeing this, Nietzsche hoped that tragedy will help modern culture passes its crisis, and revive the German spirit. He explained the optimism of tragedy in an whole new way. Nietzshe's view on tragedy is not only the contrary of the rationalist's, and also their complement.
