Tang Dynasty To Help Military Research

The question of Assisting Army is closely connected to polity,militairs and finance in Tang Dynasty. In the early phases of Tang Dynasty, the financial burden of the government for the military spending was small.But in the middle and latter half of the Tang Dynasty ,the equal-field system was destroyed,the System of Feudal Soldier was replaced by the recruiting system, the army provisions,weapons and equipments had to rely heavily on supplies from the national finace, the wars happened offen or regularly, and the fund raced up to an unprecedented level,such the new problems was impossible to solve by the old financial mechanism. However, as a extra source of military expenditure,Assisting Army was given more and more recognition.The text is arranged into four main sections:The first part is the foreword. I Mainly discusses the concept of the Assisting army and the significance of research on the Problem of Assisting Army in Tang Dynasty . The other alternative names for the Asiisting Army are the money of Assisting Army, the Foodstuff of Assisting Army, and the Military Exependiture of Assisting Army etc. From Han Dynasty to Tang Dynasty, the phenomena of Assisting Army approximately went through a spontaneous process to an evolutive process, and the government encouraged the Assisting Army and enabled it to become a system. The main characteristics of Assisting Army are the military purposes, mostly occurring in war, provisionality endowing, being encouraged as loyal and patriotic benefactor. These actions are divided into two kinds, the public way and the private way.As a special phenomenon of society and economy, the status and function of Assisting Army in Tang Dynasty should not to be ignored.There is an important and the profound influence to the government's finance and the supply mechanism of military expenditure in Tang Dynasty,Yet, the question has not been recognized by the academic community so far. The scholars have not paid any attentions for it and there is a little special works about Assisting Army. So,there are significant and realistic academic means to study for the problem of Assisting Army carefully and deeply.In the second part, I Mainly elaborated the arisen reasons of Assisting Army and the period of Assisting Arny in Tang Dynasty. During the the middle and latter half of the Tang Dynasty,the actions of Assisting Army started on a large scale, Which is closely related to the great and profound developments and the changes of Tang Dynasty's politics, economy and military situation. I divid the period into following three parts such as the forepart from the First Year of GaoZu to Fourteenth Year of XuanZong's TianBao(618-755),the mid-term from the First Year of SuZong's ZhiDe to the early days XianZong's YuanHe(756-815) and the last period from the mid- YuanHe of XianZong to the Fourth Year of AiDi's TianYou(816-907).In the third part, I Mainly elaborated the form of Assisting Army and contributors' status in Tang Dynasty.The form of Assisting Army in Tang Dynasty mainly include such as corn, money,horses, weapons, salaries and revenue etc.The contributors mainly include such as landowners, merchant princes, local chieves, official, labors of handicraft industry and small peddleries etc.In the fourth part, I mainly analysed how the Assisting Army played an important role on the finance of government and how we evaluate it.In the early phases,the behavior of Assisting Army happened rarely because the war fund of government were extremely abundant.After mid- Tang Dynasty ,the form and the scope of Assisting Army were not only increased rapidly but were unprecedented, because the situation of economy, politics and military affairs had changed enormously. In the last phases, with making a pretence of Assisting Army, the local chief and the government collected large numbers of treasure from the common people.It is an extremely significance how we realize the character of Assisting Army and how Assisting Army play a important role in Tang Dynasty. Professor Li Jingxiu suggests that Assisting Army possess a similar meaning with other various presents.However, I can't agree with her viewpoint because there are many reasons. There are other more characters of Assisting Army than the present. First, The characters of Assisting Army is provisionality . Second, it is responsible or liable.Third, The fund from Assisting Army could meet all the needs of military affairs. Fourth, the fund is an especially kind of military expenditure. Fifth ,the government had being paid more attention to Assisting Army than the presents in Tang Dynasty.The last part is a conclusion. In this section, I gave you my attitude and opinions briefly about the problem of Assisting Army in Tang Dynasty.
