| Mr.Liu Qingbang has remained a consistent perseverance in his pursuit of arts since he took a try in the world of publishing. he, instead of reducing himself into a trend-server and a worldysycophant, distinguishes himself by honestly feeling the taste of life himself and penning them down into heart-touching stories. Liu, birthed in a remote village of Henan Province, managed to live through three years of starvation in childhood and nine-year dark youth life in a coalmine, all of which contributed to his high sensitivity to life setbacks and thus enabled him to render us many a piece of literature reflecting sufferings of common life. The present thesis attempts to conduct a panoramic analysis on his embodiment of people's sufferings which are greatly loaded in his works on the basis of close-reading Liu's novels.Chapter One is a comb of the types of his embodiment of sufferings in his novels in general. In the light of close reading his texts, the author of the present paper hereby classify his types of embodying sufferings into two category: materialistic sufferings (scarce of basic life necessities, clothing, food, accommodating) and mental sufferings(the growing pains of a slip young and the in-bound hardship of rural migrant).Chapter Two chiefly analyze on the causes of the sufferings mentioned in the novel, which will be elaborated from three aspects. First, the exterior influence of politic and economy upon the sufferings of the character in the novel; secondly, the inner factors that have led to the tough life of the character and the last is the impact of the realistic setting where people make a life and also the civil abuse which has been internalized into the personality of the character.Chapter Three focuses on Liu's creative motivation of reflecting worldly sufferings. It starts with dating back the influence of his earlier life experience from childhood to youth upon his literary creation of hardships, followed by discussing the pushing effect of his creation principle"be frank with his sensitivity to misery, be respectful to the toughness of life reality, and be faithful to the model character", and finally explores his creation motives from the perspective of his pursuing in hardship literature.Chapter Four is a tentative comment on the significance and deficiencies of Liu's literary writing. His theme of representing hardship in his works is a heir to the literary history of reflecting hardship and is of great individuality rather than a invariant repetition. Liu differs himself in temperately unfolding life misery, poeticizing the misery and specializing the landscape of hardship. Meanwhile, Liu's literary creation is not void of deficiencies and is expected to pay more attention to the uniqueness of material choice, the typicality of characters and the variety of theme and plot. |
