This paper trys to sketch out the general trends and changing processes of the images of intellectuals in the contemporary chinese literatures, combined with the political, economic, social and cultural background in which the works of literature were created. We explore the correlation between real life and literary works to see how such an correlation transforms into literary characters, as well as the distortion and deformation that occurs in the process of transformation.The mainstream and focus of an era shifts with the development of society. The images of intellectuals in the literary works also show very different characteristics of the times their own, however, some spiritual essence of chinese intellectuals is still embodied in these characters. Thus, we analyse the political and economic impact on the images of literary characters, and we go further to see how traditional culture, social customs, and national character exert an influence on literary works.By means of in-depth analysis and comparison of characteristics of the times and spirit of the nature of the artistic images in the literary works, we try to unfold the overall image and mental outlook of the intellectuals in contemporary chinese literatures, and probe into the shortcomings of contemporary literatures on intellectuals.
