Ming And Qing Yulin Urban Geography Research

Yulin which has a deep-seated culture is one of the national-level historical cultural cities. Its predecessor is the Yulin village in the Early Ming Dynasty and set up Bao,Wei,Zhen and Fu in succession, having a change from military centere to administrative centere. The Northern Defense of early Ming Dynasty made the set of Yulin village necessary. Both from macroscopical and microcosmic point of view, the site selection about Tuo Hill and Yuxi River has great superionity. With the improvement of military status,Yulin expanded northward twice out of urban safety system.Also, population breeding made the city expand southward and build the rampart. As far as Qing Dynasty, with the change of national policies,military threats from the north stayed down.On the contrary, natural factor cause the shifting sand invade the North City Wall.During the change from military centere to administrative centere, the administrative buildings and military buildings reversed the order of importance. Meanwhile, the military function bringed many new kinds of culture with their own characteristics, such as educational institutions, temples and courtyards. At that time, Yulin suburban make the most of Tuo Hill, Yuxi River and Hong Hill, forming an organic whole with military buildings and natural elements. The layout of Yulin city had beening formed the characteristic which has six Pavilions on the same straight line and a narrow stretch running north to south, with Chinese traditional customs and practical guiding principles.Followed these six chapters:First, researches mainly on the historical and geographical foundation about Yulin's rise, embodying microeconomic and macroeconomic aspects.Second, expounds the expanding and range of Yulin in the Ming-Qing Dynasty.The main reasons contain population breeding and natural elements.Third, administrative buildings and military buildings were the main kinds of the city.The military buildings had superiority over the later in Ming Dynasty,and change reserved in the Qing Dynasy. Meanwhile, the nature of Yulin has changed.Fourth, talk about the culture buildings and courtyards. These culture lay on the Tuo Hill, and influenced by military situation.As far as the courtyards were concerned, military immigrants from Shanxi province and Beijing causeed it.Fifth,the suburban distributed into military buildings and natural elements. The utilization and transformation on Yuxi River was a typical example.Last,give a conclusion to the layout feature and designed thoughts.The paper belongs to the Urban Historical Geography, the former study mainly foucs on military status,having many different aspects.The innovations in learing of this paper contains: study it as an independent topic from the Urban Historical Geography, analysising the layout change from military centere to administrative centere. In addition, the study on cultural buildings of characterizing is another innovation.
