Textiles and apparel industry has been existed for thousands of years, and plays very important role in employment and foreign exchange income in China now. Since China is going to enter WTO in the near future, this thesis concentrates on how Chinese textiles and apparel industry can keep the advantage status in the future international competition.Chapter 1 firstly presents the general situation of the whole textiles and apparel industry with related statistic data of China in 2000.The second chapter analyzes the thorough outer environment which influences Chinese textiles and apparel industry. This industry is intensely competitive and mature, in which China is facing sharp competition from both the developed countries and the developing countries, like Mexico and India. The key factors to success in this industry are low costs and reliable quality in China, but they will not be enough. In order to take the advantage in the future, Chinese textiles and apparel industry must follow the environmental changes.SWOT analysis is carried out in Chapter 3 to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Chinese textiles and apparel industry, and to present future opportunities and threats after WTO entrance. With the knowledge of core competence, more efforts must be made on value creation.The fourth chapter's main content is how to make strategy choices. Market entrance strategies are discussed in this chapter, including Direct export, Transnational marketing and Joint venture Strategies. Basing on cases of three corporations, this chapter analyzes international competition strategies of Chinese textiles and apparel industry, such as Overall cost leadership, Differentiation, Focus, Vertical integration and Visual corporation.The fifth chapter gives suggestions to implement of international competition strategies. In order to build up the core competence, Chinese textiles and apparel industry should make great efforts to adjust enterprises and products structure, to improve marketing channels and to pay more attention to researches and developments.This thesis makes the contribution to give realistic researches to problem which Chinese textiles and apparel industry is facing before WTO admission, to supply some ideas about how this industry can do to promote competitive advantage.
