Focusing on the eight players in the 2006 Madrid WTA year-end Tennis Masters Cup finals, this paper is intended to make a comprehensive analysis of the players'employments of their skills and tactics by means of literature, expert interviews, video observation statistics and mathematical statistics. The results are as follows:I. The technical features of outstanding woman professional tennis players1. The distribution feature in the process of a basic unit of every stroke: 47.43% for the first three shots, 70.87%for the first five, and 83.25% for the first seven.2. In batting point and time, the top female professional tennis players share the features of hitting shots before the click on the rise or high ball.3. In the process of serves, smashes and forehand or backhand drives near the baseline, the action of whipping the ball is obvious, and in the stage of the shots, a fixed head is maintained.4. In the process of serving action, the shot point is at the top and front of the head. When hitting, the chest erect straight to brake, with the forearm rotating and wrist outreaching .5. When returning serve, they often take open stances. Driving near baseline is mostly adopted, but to a certain extent, the techniques of slicing, pulling, blocking, tipping, and pushing are also employed.II. The tactical Features of outstanding woman professional tennis players1. The tactical features of the first serve:·In the first court, by wide-angle outside slice serve and flat, they can get ace or compel the opponent out of the court so as to attack the backhand position. Changes in inside and close are also available. The proportion of all stroke lines is: 57.6% for outside, 33.7% for inside, 8.7% for close;·In the second court, they often employ side topspin and flat to get ace or force the opponent to return a short shot so as to attack in the next stroke. Changes in outside and close are also available. The proportion of all stroke lines is: 35.9% for outside, 58.97% for inside, 5.13 % for close;2. The tactical features of the second serve·In the above two courts, they play topspin and side topspin to stroke the ball to the opponent's backhand position so as to attack the forehand position and close. The proportion of the stroke lines in the first court is: 17.41% for outside, 74.8% for inside, 7.78% for close; while the situation in the second court is: 74.96% for outside, 20.4% for inside, 4.64 % for close;3. the tactical features of service return:·Return the other side's first serve in the original route or stroke back to the middle court;·As for the opponent's second serve, return a middle ball or a straight ball in the first court, and return a middle ball and a crosscourt ball in the second court, but compared with the return to the first serve, straight balls are obviously more, which shows the attack is enhanced when receiving the second serve.·In coping with outside corner balls, the main choice of tactics is to stroke the ball back or to backhand the ball. And in coping with the inside corner balls and close balls, the main choice is middle balls.4. The features of serve and volley tactics:·This tactics has a as high as 79 % scoring rate, but the number and the frequency of the employment are less. ·In the options of the route of serve and volley, the ratio of inside, outside and close is 9:9:1, no difference between the inside and outside corner.5. the features of approach shot tactics:·In the left and the right, volleying a straight ball has a scoring rate up to 86%, while volleying a crosscourt ball has a scoring rate of 57%, a comparatively lower one.·In the middle, they mainly volley the opponent's backhand position.III. The spatial features during the employment of skills and tactics by outstanding women professional tennis players1. The common feature is the "backcourt is the base, from the outside to the inside, from the back to the front";2. From the angle of gains and loses, 77.03 percent of the total gains and losses take place in the backcourt (the court 7, 8, 9,), where techniques and tactics are most used, the main area of both offence and defense;3. The scoring rate in forecourt is as high as 70%. In contrast, the scoring rate in backcourt is only 45%. the scoring in forecourt mainly results from the oppressing offence in centre court, so centre court is the focus for both sides; whoever has a control of it will grasps the initiative in the game.
