History textbooks in Chinese Mainland and Taiwan are now undergone deep reform,as the trend of curriculum reform within world. Recently, many enthusiastic scholars in Chinese mainland have done much more comprehensive studies refering to reform of history textbooks, and have yield fruitful results which mainly revovle in transverse comparison among materials. The study of history textbook in Chinese mainland focuses on horizontal comparison between new editions and old ones, especially on the difference of their characters, structures and arrangements of content. But the study on Junior history books from Taiwan Region, on the horizonal comparison between the editions from Chinese mainland and Taiwan Region is insufficient relatively. In addition, the existing comparative researches are mainly on the microscopic level, yet, researches on the macroscopic level are much less. On account of this, I choose the junior school history subject matter of East China normal university version, which is edited by Su Zhiliang and the junior school history subject matter of Hanlin version from Taiwan region as samples, through comparison the content selection and arrangements involving the new knowledge content, the chapter layout in the two versions of textbooks, to find their merits and drawbacks, so as to reach the optimum teaching program under the new curriculum idea. The comparative analysis show: the main differences in the politicle system, ideology, educational and historiography between Mainland and Taiwan reflect on the many aspects such as structures, selection and evaluation of the historic charicater and historic events and so on. For example, Mainland textbooks compiled contents of Chinese history on the basis of historical evolution theory according to Marxist historical materialism completely. Therefore Taiwan textbooks arranged contents according to the traditional system of dynasty as basin fragment. In a word, as far as I am concerned, history textbooks in Chinese Mainland and Taiwan complement each other, each has its merits. The administrations in both sides need to use the opportunity of bilateral exchanges in culture, education and science and technology, so as to facilitate the study of history textbooks from Taiwan and Mainland, to amends each incorrect parts. These activities will really help junior middle school teaching both sides. Therefore, I hope the history textbooks compilers from Mainland and Taiwan can come together to discuss the strategies and learn the expierence from each other.
