Teachers and parents always regard education as not compatible with the games, and just like the fire and water which can't live together. Education is something formal and serious, while the games are usually not encouraged and even forbidden by some parents. So many students are tired of doing their homework. Happy learning and learn happily become a beautiful dream for them.However, some research shows that when playing games children can actually learn some knowledge instead of simply killing the time. The result is different with the thoughts of the teachers and parents. Some experts come up with a good idea that education could be integrated with games. And the word "edutainment" was born and is expected to realize the dream of happy learning.In this paper, the author studied the history and status-quo of edutainment through literature review, and on this basis designed and developed the software "Community of game study". This software avoids the common drawbacks of some existing edutainment games and integrates knowledge and game in its real sense. The software also makes some technological innovation by adding functions such as allowing the teacher to monitor and control the game and to edit the scene. We then put the software into use in an elementary school. From the field study we got a great deal of valuable data. Through analyzing the data and discussing the results, we've got some conclusions as follows. Firstly, students do learn something when they play the game. Secondly, playing the game can effectively stimulate the students' interest in learning. Last but not least, the application of new technology can affect students' learning.
