The inertia parameters of the rigid body make a great impact on the characteristics of the system , especially in fields of the weapon systems,construction machinery, aerospace and automobile.The precise of the inertia parameters has a great effect on the motion, location and control of the object. In the fields of automobile, the noise, vibration and hardness of vehicle are directly influenced by the powertrain suspension system which has impact on the stability and ride comfort of vehicle handling. Therefore, it is of great sifnificance to decelop the measurement system of inertia parameters of the rigid body in engeneering practice.Based on traditional theoretic, a trifilar pendulum method, several groups of test data, which was swinging period and three angles between axis of rotation and a local body-fixed reference frame, were generated by using this measurement system. The inertia tensor are identified by least square method, and the mass of rigid body can be caculated by test data of load detector.The main purpose of this study is to design a moment of inertia measurement system. Main contents include: 1. The principle of testing objects moment of inertia by trifilar pendulum and the mathematical model were analyzed.; 2. The mechanical structure of moment of inertia measurement system was designed and the equiment parts for the test were selected; 3.GUI design and programe for moment of inertia measurement system in MATLAB; 5. The measurement system was simulated in ADAMS, and the error of experimental tests was analyzed.After the completion of the overall design, a great deal of virtual experimental test has been done. The results showed that the measurement accuracy and measurement efficiency of the moment of inertia measurement system designed in this study was high, and the system was stable and easy to operat. This measurement system for moment of inertia can be widely used in weapon systems, construction machinery, aerospace, automobile, biomechanics research and production fields.
