With the development of society and a huge market demand, metallurgical industry pay more attention to the quality and efficiency of steel coil packaging. The automatic process of steel coil packaging can not only improve the efficiency and the product quality, but also can reduce the cost. Online automated processing of Edge Protection Strips is one of the key processes to achieve packaging process automation, however, the research on this field of our country is still blank.Edge Protection Strips which installed on the outer edge of the steel coil can protect the original quality of steel coil from the damage in the process of lifting, transportation and storage. The production process is carried out in room temperature which belongs to the cold rolling plastic forming category, It is affected by a lot of factors, some of which have not been fully understood and mastered, such as friction, lubricant and the mechanism of the material constitutive relation in distortion, so plastic forming category is still full of challenges and opportunities.On the basis of researching domestic and international relevant forming technology and the process of the Edge Protection Strips, the overall layout technical proposal of Angle Profiling System for the Manufacture of Edge Protection Strips was summarized, and the process of rollformer and bending circle as the key technology were confirmed in this paper. According to the cold rolling theory analysis of the metal sheet, the selection and optimization of the structure parameter were defined for the key technology of the Angle Profiling System. Rollformer and bending circle process were simulated by nonlinear finite element analysis software ABAQUS in order to optimize technological parameters. The influence of those parameters such as roller's number, roller's angle, roller's distance and sheet thickness on the quality of bending circle was focused on in the period of Rollformer. The impact of three different layouts of the main forming rollers, the structure layout of the auxiliary forming rollers and sheet thickness on the quality of modeling was taken into consideration as bending circle formed and simulation analysis on elastic resilience of Edge Protect was made. The curve which describes the relationship between form diameter and form parameters (i.e., the overlap of the main roller and the displacement of the auxiliary forming rollers) emerged by finite element numerical simulation and matlab cure fitting.The scheme for developing Angle Profiling System for the Manufacture of Edge Protection Strips was proposed according to the result of finite element analysis. Meanwhile, verified comparative analysis was made and the cause of error was analyzed through the model machine test. In the end, the paper reviewed and summarized the whole project, and put forward the prospect of the further study of the project.
