The development of CAD/CAM technology lays a very strong support for the manufacturing of mould. With the assistance of software which has CAD function, such as UG,Pro-E,Cimatron, and so on, the design of different kinds of special curve surface can be well done by designers. In the CAM module of those software, we can complete the simulation of processing and tool path, which can be made comparisons and further studied to achieve a better result, in other words, the optimization of the parameter and the choose of more efficient tool path can be easily obtained through the module above, finally, the real NC program can be outputted by the post-processing module, which greatly improve the processing efficiency and quality.This paper states the UG CAD/CAM module, with which, the author builds the body model of a certain type plane's angle section and does its virtual milling process to study the problem of the cold working die's rough finish with high efficiency. Based on reading lots of papers related with this field, the author makes the best use of CAD/CAM technology to study that how to improve the machining efficiency under certain parameters set of different machining modes in the process of machining. The author makes a summary of principles to insist and some other important factors to pay attention during the course of optimizing the cutter's process path. With the comparison of processing time under different machining mode's, the author come to the conclusion of which mode's of machining is more efficient than the mode of another.Then, the author makes the experiments under a milling machining center with two kinds material of DT alloy and LD steel, the real experiments are designed by Orthogonal method to study tool wearing and material removing rate, with the analysis of which, the author makes better combination of milling parameter set and obtains the best parameter set.What is more, a postprocessor for FANUC 0i Mate NC system which accord with requirements of the task was created by using UG/Post, Then the postprocessor is applied and checked, Finally, the NC program is created, which could be identified by NC machine directly so as to ensure the die is produced with high accuracy. At last, the part above was processed through the NC machining center with the optimized tool path and milling parameter set, which result meets the conclusion very well.
