Free forging hydraulic machines is heavy equipment in the machinery industry. It is an important symbol of economy and national defensive capabilities, which is a measurement of the capability of manufacturing national large equipments. It has explicit strategic significance.The current situation and the development tendency of the forging hydraulic machines domestic and overseas are introduced in this paper. A 20 MN forging hydraulic machine was taken as the object of study. The design though way of the software and hardware of the controlling system was expounded, as well as the operating characteristic and the controlling law of the hydraulic systems. The normal operation and the remote control of the forging hydraulic system in the operating modes of manual, automatic and linkage were achieved successfully.The number of the control objects of the forging hydraulic system is big and the locale working environment is unfavorable. Allowing for these factors above, the combination control system of PLC control network and IPC is structured. The system integrated the DCS, FCS and PLC technology, taking"Centralized management, decentralized control"as the core control concept. Making use of the powerful data-handling capacity, the remote control of the operating state of the forging hydraulic machines was achieved; making use of the fast and reliable control ability of PLC, the controlling of the forging hydraulic machines is achieved.Combining the controlling characteristic of nonlinearity and big inertia of the forging hydraulic machines, the automatic operating controlling program was designed through the fuzzy controlling algorithm of the prediction model. The forging speed can reach to 65 per minute and the forging precision is±3mm. The automatic operating control program of the forging manipulator was designed through the fuzzy self-tuning PID controlling algorithm , the highest speed of the body is 800mm/s ,precision is±5mm,the fastest rotational velocity of the clamp is 20r/min., precision is±1°. With the fuzzy technology, the controlling precision and response speed of the forging hydraulic machines in the automatic and linkage working modes were efficiently improved.
