Hydrogen is known as "future energy" and "green power" , which is the most attractive new energy. It has attracted increasing attention due to its cleanliness, efficiency and renewability. At present, there are many methods to produce hydrogen and the most advantageous is biohydrogen production. There is more interest in anaerobic fermentation for its relatively simple process and lower production costs. This paper took molasses diluent as substance, using continuous flow for matrix stirring chest reactor (CSTR) to research anaerobic fermentative activated sludge, produce hydrogen and deal with waste water. Fermentation sludge separation of hydrogen bacteria produce was carried out in the reactor in different stages respectively, while hydrogenogens characteristic was researched simultaneous. The continuous flow experiments results showed that the reactor was runned at (35±1)℃in 8h under the condition of influent COD concentration at 3000 mg/L and pH at 6.5-7.5. After the process performed steadily, butyric acid and acetic acid was gained as dominant fermentation production. The minimal biogas evolution rate could reach at 4.87L/d while the maximal hydrogen at 41.25mL/d under this condition. When influent COD concentration rose to 4000 mg/L, the fermentation product was not changed, but the content of butyric acid increased while the content of acetic acid decreased. And the minimal and maximal reached at 6.62L/d and 104.8mL/d respectively. When influent COD concentration rose to 5500 mg/L, the maximal biogas evolution rate and hydrogen evolution rate was obtained as 9.45L/d and 120mL/d respectively.Using Hungate anaerobic roll tube method, a strains Q2 was got from production hydrogen fermentation sludge, which had good ability of hydrogen production. Its hydrogen ability was measured at 1152 ml/L by intermittent experiment. By 16s rDNA, it was identied as Pectinatus sp..The results was investigated that production hydrogen bacteria Q2 made use of xylose, glucose, fructose, lactose, cane sugar and starch. Experimental results showed that five carbon sugar and six carbon sugar all can be used to metabolism. Similarly, monosaccharide, disaccharide and polysaccharide all can be used as production hydrogen matrix. Elemental iron and ferrous iron had an impact on the metabolism of production hydrogen bacteria.
